Presentations Keeper volunteer

Why do we have Presentations Keeper Volunteers and what do they do?

Presentations staff look after and train a variety of animals that they work with in our Amazing Animals shows, and  Volunteers provide valuable support to our Presentations Section.  They help with husbandry of the section’s mammals and birds assisting behind the scenes during the Amazing Animals shows (during peak holiday times), general cleaning duties, and the opportunity to observe training sessions with the seals and other animals. Having Volunteer support means we are able to do much more, such as more behaviour observation and creating more new enrichments.

Who are we looking for?

  • People who enjoy being part of a team.
  • A willingness to learn and to keep up to date.
  • Happy being outside in all the weather that Bristol can throw at you.
  • Good levels of physical fitness - you will be on your feet the majority of the day and some tasks will require stamina
  • Reliability and regular attendance.  We would like Volunteers to attend one week day a week from 8.30am – 4.30pm.

What’s in it for you?

  • By becoming a Presntations Keeper volunteer you can…Gain valuable animal husbandry experience to enhance your CV.
  • Do something completely different in your spare time.
  • Meet new people.
  • Have the opportunity to observe animal training techniques.

“Volunteering at Bristol zoo has inspired and encouraged me to pursue a future career with animals.  I have met some amazing people, increased my knowledge and built my experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone that has a true passion and love for animals".  Alex, Presentations Keeper Volunteer.
