Bristol Zoological Society has been shortlisted as a finalist in the first Bristol Pride awards.
The Zoo has been nominated in the category of Best Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Friendly Visitor Attraction.
The city’s first Pride Awards and gala dinner takes place this Saturday at the Marriott Royal Hotel. The event aims to showcase the great work and people in the city whilst celebrating Pride and the community.
This summer the Zoo joined forces with Bristol Pride to deliver the first LGBT family friendly event at a UK zoo. The day-long event aimed to celebrate the family unit in all its colourful guises and offered a host of fun-filled activities designed to unify all guests, including kite making, games on the lawn, circus skills and face painting.
The collaboration was awarded a Big Lottery Fund grant to launch the UK’s first ‘Zoo Pride: Celebrating Families’ event. Zoo Pride was a day-long event that celebrates the family unit in all its colourful guises.
For the last six years, Bristol Pride events have been vital to champion equality in the south west through the provision of vibrant, safe and friendly activities for the gay community.
The awards also include recognition for best LGBT staff network, best employer, best Local Law Firm and Pride awards for performers, volunteers, sponsors and supporters.
