Animal Enrichment

Have you ever visited Bristol Zoo and wondered why there are paper mache piñatas in Monkey Jungle or puzzles in with the keas? Every day our keepers plan enrichment activities.

What is enrichment?

Environmental enrichment is important for enhancing the well-being of our animals. Enrichment can be physical (e.g. puzzle toys, complex climbing structures), sensory (e.g. naturalistic scents or sounds), or food-based (e.g. concealing food in novel ways). Here at the Zoo we have a team that dedicates time to planning and creating the most relevant and effective enrichment for our animals.
