BIG Summer Send-Off Be wowed by our giant moving gorilla as part of our special BIG Summer Send-Off events, from 21 July to 3 September.

These are in addition to Bristol Zoo Gardens’ many other attractions from the famous gorilla troop, red pandas, penguins and sloths, to the award-winning gardens.

The amazing sculpture is taller than the largest giraffe ever recorded and as wide as three king size beds! It weighs more than four tonnes and has been made from 180 square metres of wood.

Get a first glimpse of the sculpture as it’s being built by award-winning, Bristol-based theatrical events company, Bakehouse Factory.

Expect surprise movements, as the female gorilla ‘Wilder’ ‘eats’ lettuce. She will also reveal her baby ‘Monty Alan’, a name inspired by the national park in Equatorial Guinea where the Bristol Zoological Society works to protect western lowland gorillas in the wild.

Theatre show

Families can also join in a fun theatre show – ‘Into The Wild’ – starring animal puppets and the audience as conservation heroes.

Wearing animal-eared headphones, the show has been inspired by the next chapter of Bristol Zoo’s story and encourages children to get wild with dancing, games and lots of fun for the whole family.

Theatre tickets are sold separately to general admission tickets. To book and find out more visit this page.

Past, Present and Future exhibition

The BIG Summer Send-Off will also feature a Past, Present and Future outdoor exhibition, which will include poems, pictures and heartfelt words shared by its visitors to create a special history of the Zoo.

Book your tickets for this summer’s must-see event, before they sell out!

Bristol Zoo Gardens’ last day is 3 September 2022.

Peter the gorilla had his BIG day out – now it’s time for yours! Join in our BIG Summer Send-Off events and see amazing animals before the Zoo closes.
