Bristol Zoo’s new evening course ‘Getting Under the Skin of Zoo Animal Health ’, will answer all your questions.

Keeping 420 species of animal fit and healthy needs careful planning, imaginative solutions and shedloads of dedication and expertise.  In this course you’ll meet the vets, keepers, educators and researchers, who work together to ensure this happens. There will also be the opportunity to get up close to some unique zoo resources, including some living ones!

The course will cover the following areas:

  • Intro and enclosure design - healthy spaces for zoo animals
  • Diagnostics - working out what's wrong
  • Enrichment in the Zoo - keeping our animals mentally and physically healthy
  • Preventing illness and disease
  • Nutrition in the Zoo - you are what you eat
  • Treatment and aftercare
  • Animal training for veterinary procedures
  • Handling and restraint - managing stress

Term length:     8 weeks
