Bristol Zoo Gardens is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Approved Centre for Zoological Medicine. Established in 1999, the on-site veterinary department deals with over 10,000 animals of more than 400 species resident at Bristol Zoo Gardens. The vet department currently consists of the Head of Veterinary Services Michelle Barrows, Veterinary Resident Charlotte Day, part-time Staff Vet Richard Saunders, part-time Head Veterinary Nurse Kellie Wyatt and full-time Veterinary Nurse Teresa Horspool.
Our Veterinary externship, which covers both Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project is now fully booked for 2022.
In May 2022, the decision was made that the externship will NOT run for an indefinite period, following the imminent closure of Bristol Zoo Gardens in Autumn 2022, due to the uncertainty of what we can offer veterinary students as a placement during the transition period to the new Bristol Zoo site, along with our growing commitments to local veterinary medicine students, outside of the externship.
We understand this will disappointing for those of you hoping to apply for the next few years.
Please note this applies to placements at both of our sites (Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project) so please do not contact Wild Place separately regarding placements.
Any updates will be posted here.
