Bristol Zoo Gardens is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Approved Centre for Zoological Medicine. Established in 1999, the on-site veterinary department deals with over 10,000 animals of more than 400 species resident at Bristol Zoo Gardens. The vet department currently consists of the Head of Veterinary Services Michelle Barrows, Veterinary Resident Charlotte Day, two part-time Staff Vets – Rowena Killick and Richard Saunders, part-time Head Veterinary Nurse Kellie Wyatt and full-time Veterinary Nurse Teresa Horspool.
Zoo veterinary work is varied ranging from ‘hands-on’ clinical work and post mortem exams to record keeping and collating data. Student externs are expected to assist with all areas.
We are now fully booked for 2020 and 2021. Any dates becoming available in 2021 will be advertised here, so please check back regularly. Applications for 2022 will not be accepted until 1st January 2021 so please do not send applications in before this time.
