Bristol Zoological Society is a conservation charity which manages and operates two sites, Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project. In late 2020 we announced that to safeguard the future of Bristol Zoological Society and our work, that we would be closing Bristol Zoo Gardens in late 2022, with Wild Place Project remaining open, until it becomes the new Bristol Zoo in 2024.
The Membership Team have put a plan in place to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.
All memberships will continue throughout the transition to the new Bristol Zoo, there will be no need to pause or stop your membership. Steps have been taken to ensure that all members get full value from their membership.
We hope our Members, Annual Pass Holders and Dual Members will be excited by the plans and opportunities for a new Bristol Zoo. We will ensure that we communicate clearly with Members and Annual Pass Holders throughout the process and encourage their involvement.
We will be reaching out to our Members and friends, past and present, to join the conversation and to help shape the new Bristol Zoo. Everyone is invited to join the conversation.
Your membership helps Bristol Zoological Society care for the animals, the sites, and also contributes to our important conservation in ten countries, across four continents.
Bristol Zoo Membership will continue in its current form for the entire time that the Bristol Zoo Gardens site is open. Upon the closure of the site (expected late 2022, date to be confirmed), membership and benefits will move over to Wild Place Project for our Members to enjoy for the remainder of their membership term. Upon renewal Members will become Wild Place Project Annual Pass Holders.
By moving membership over to the Wild Place Project site, together we can ensure the future success of our amazing organisation. Our Members will be a part of the exciting new Bristol Zoo, helping us to build a world-leading, conservation-led zoo for generations to come.

Upon the closure of the Bristol Zoo Gardens site, Dual Membership will revert to our Wild Place Project Annual Pass scheme. This means that Dual Members will be able to make the most of their membership throughout the transition period. The price for Dual Members will reflect the time of renewal to ensure that all Members are receiving maximum value from their membership.
Our Annual Pass scheme at Wild Place Project will remain largely unchanged. Annual Pass Holders will be able to enjoy their benefits throughout the transition and will continue to receive great value as the new site is developed up to 2024, when it will become the new Bristol Zoo, and beyond!
Life Members provide essential support to Bristol Zoological Society. To ensure that Life Members can continue to support Bristol Zoological Society upon closure of the Bristol Zoo Gardens site, Life Membership will be moved to Wild Place Project (the site will become the new Bristol Zoo in 2024 following extensive investment). Life Members will be able to enjoy the same benefits they enjoyed at Bristol Zoo Gardens whilst watching our new Zoo develop.
We will be in touch with our Life Members about the changes.
