*NEW* We now have some exciting opportunities for Ranger Volunteers!

Why do we have Ranger Volunteers and what do they do?

We want our visitors to have a great day out; our ranger volunteers really make a difference by being welcoming and giving our visitors the opportunity to ask questions, and having some amazing fun facts up their sleeve!

This is a wonderful and unique opportunity to volunteer alongside some amazing animals such as gorillas, meerkats, butterflies and some fascinating species in BugWorld! Our Ranger volunteers spend half a day a week in a variety of different areas in the Zoo, chatting with our visitors and inspiring them about our animals.

Ranger volunteers can also get involved in meeting and greeting visitors; this might be school groups arriving at the zoo or letting visitors know about special seasonal activities such as at Easter and Halloween.

For those who would like to do be more involved there is the opportunity to do some aspects of this role within the Animal Discovery volunteer role.

Who are we looking for?

  • Friendly and confident people who are at ease speaking to visitors.
  • We’re not looking for experts, just an interest in wildlife and conservation, and of course, people!
  • We want people who are flexible and enjoy learning new things.
  • Reliability and regular attendance.  We ask you to commit to either a morning or afternoon shift, on a day that suits you. The morning shift runs from 9.45am until 1.45pm, and the afternoon shift runs from 1.15pm to 5pm (these times are slightly reduced in the winter).

What’s in it for you?

By becoming a ranger volunteer you can…

  • Meet new people and make new friends.
  • Try something completely different.
  • Spend quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle.
  • Gain a valuable insight into our conservation work.
  • Expand your knowledge of wildlife and conservation.
  • Enhance your communication and customer service skills.

"It's a fulfilling role which I thoroughly enjoy (even when it’s raining and really quiet). The time usually flies by and I get to go home feeling like I've done something productive.” Matt, Ranger Volunteer
