Conservation

The IUCN classifies the Javan chevrotain as Data Deficient (DD), which means that there is not enough information to estimate their risk of extinction in the wild.

In the wild, they are threatened by habitat fragmentation, hunting, and being taken from the wild for the exotic pet trade.

Habitat

Our Javan chevrotain lives in our new Tropical House, which has been designed to recreate a tropical forest habitat for its residents.

It lives alongside free-flying birds, as it would in its natural habitat in the forests of Java in Indonesia.
